WFC2 First

2015 will be a season of firsts for Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2), the club’s new professional soccer team.

And we want you to be there for every moment of the action at Thunderbird Stadium!

As anticipation builds for the club’s inaugural WFC2 home opener on April 19, we want you to tell us about one of your first experiences in soccer or with Whitecaps FC. It could be anything from your first time going to a Whitecaps FC match, first time meeting a player, or your own first time on the field playing or scoring a goal.

Send your story to wfc2@whitecapsfc.com and you could win WFC2 Season Tickets!

In honour of what’s to come from WFC2 in USL this year, here are a few of the ‘Caps firsts in MLS so far:

First goal – Eric Hassli, March 19, 2011

Who could forget? It was an electric atmosphere at Empire Field as a boisterous sold-out crowd watched the ‘Caps take on Canadian rivals Toronto FC in their first MLS match.

It only took them 15 minutes to explode into celebration as big Frenchman Eric Hassli blasted in the club’s first MLS goal.

Who will score the first goal for WFC2?

First road victory – at Chivas USA, March 17, 2012

Whitecaps FC were off to a victorious start on the road in the 2012 MLS season. Captain Jay DeMerit scored a header goal off of a corner kick to get the victory.

Can WFC2 get off to a strong start this Sunday on the road at Seattle Sounders FC 2?

First playoff match – at LA Galaxy, November 1, 2012

The second MLS season for Whitecaps FC saw the Blue and White earn an MLS Cup playoff spot for the first time. An enthralling match saw Darren Mattocks give the ‘Caps an early lead before the Galaxy stormed back, with the help of a controversial penalty call. The Galaxy went on to win their second straight MLS Cup.

First hat-trick – Kekuta Manneh, October 9, 2013

With the Cascadia Cup in sight, 18-year-old Kekuta Manneh had his breaking out match in front of nearly 40,000 fans at CenturyLink Field. Three goals in the first half put him in the club’s history books as the first player to record a hat-trick while wearing Whitecaps FC colours in MLS.

Oh, and the ‘Caps beat the Sounders 4-1.

First player to score in his first three matches (and counting) – Octavio Rivero

What a start for the Uruguayan! The ‘Caps new striker has been as advertised, becoming the first Whitecaps FC player to score in each of his first three matches in MLS.
