One fan, two matches and an epic afternoon of soccer

Whether it’s at home or on the road they’re always going the extra mile to show their support. So when we saw on social media last week that ‘Caps fan Adrian Matangi – who goes by the Twitter handle @jabwayjames - was planning his own feat of football fandom, we had to get in touch with him.

Adrian was planning on joining the 53,854 other fans at BC Place on Sunday to cheer on Team Canada in their Women’s World Club Round of 16 clash against Switzerland. However, he also wanted to take up his regular spot in the stands at Thunderbird stadium to support WFC2 as they faced off against Timbers FC 2.

With just 40 minutes between the final whistle at the Bird and the first kick at BC Place he was going to have to go some to cover the 12kms between the two matches. He could have driven, he could have taken a taxi; but in true Vancouver fashion he decided to turn to pedal power and cycle the distance between the two stadia.

We thought he was crazy, we thought it couldn’t be done; so we asked if we could rig Adrian up with a camera to document his journey. The end result is fantastic. A real testament to our city and its soccer-mad fans…
