VANCOUVER, BC – It sure looks like the race for the MLS Supporters’ Shield (awarded to the top team in the regular season) is going to go right down to the wire.

As if there was ever any doubt.

Here’s a look at how things stand after Week 29.

As you can see, Vancouver Whitecaps FC remain top of the table after LA Galaxy and FC Dallas both lost their respective matches – LA fell 3-0 to RSL and Dallas 3-1 to SKC. But they’ve got some company.

New York’s 2-0 win over Portland on Sunday moved them into a tie with Vancouver for the top spot – and the Red Bulls have a game in hand. That makes them the favourite (as we mentioned last week), but there’s still a lot of soccer left to be played.

The ‘Caps have five matches remaining – starting this Saturday against star-studded expansion side New York City FC (7 p.m. PT on TSN1).

PLAYOFF CLINCHING SCENARIOS

This is the first week that Whitecaps FC could officially clinch a playoff spot.

For that to happen, the ‘Caps would need a victory against NYCFC and a draw between San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake.

On that note, here’s a look at the current Western Conference standings.

The top two teams will get a bye to the conference semifinals, while the remaining four will play a single-elimination knockout match (3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5).
