California is one great state to visit at this time of the year – especially living in Raincouver.
And what's a better way to escape to the sunny Californian weather? Spend time with your favourite MLS team, of course!
As part of the Whitecaps FC ‘Caps2Cali contest presented by Alaska Airlines, my friend Matthew and I got to spend time with the club during their
important match against San Jose Earthquakes
earlier this month. We got to meet some of the players, stay in the same hotel at Santana Row, and spend breakfast and dinner with them.
We also got to ride with the team on their bus on the way to the beautiful Avaya Stadium on match day. Once we got to the stadium, we were given pregame field access to watch the team warm up. Also, head coach Carl Robinson debriefed us on what to expect from the team during the match.
I was surprised that a lot of Canadians showed up to support and cheer for the team. It was such a beautiful atmosphere and great experience to be in the stands with fellow Whitecaps FC fans – even though we weren’t able to pull out a late win.
In the end, I realized that this experience was not just about escaping the rain and cold in Vancouver. It was also about meeting and getting to know the players. These guys are serious and focused on the pitch, but if you spend time with them, you will find out that they are some of the most hilarious and down to earth guys out there!
I also want to give a shout out to Cait J. for making this trip possible and one of the most unforgettable trips I've ever had!
