On Sunday night at BC Place, Vancouver Whitecaps FC will play their first-ever home playoff game in Major League Soccer. Win, and they’re through to the Western Conference Final.
Interestingly enough, the last time the ‘Caps won a playoff game was on October 7, 2010 against, you guessed it: the Portland Timbers. That was both teams’ final year in the old USSF Division 2 Professional League – they joined Major League Soccer in 2011.
The ‘Caps won 2-0 in that game at Swangard Stadium.
They took the lead less than a minute in thanks to Gershon Koffie’s first-ever goal for the club. Then, Martin Nash doubled Vancouver’s advantage on a 13th-minute penalty.
Check out the highlights below.
The Timbers won the second leg 1-0 in Portland, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Vancouver from winning the series 2-1 on aggregate.
Will the ‘Caps come out on top again on Sunday?
