Ousted's 'unbelievable' stop vs. Philly crowned Whitecaps FC Save of the Year

2015 CDI SOTY - Ousted

No surprise here.

David Ousted’s diving, goalline save on Philadelphia’s Andrew Wenger has been crowned the 2015 Whitecaps FC Save of the Year, presented by Canadian Direct Insurance. The memorable stop, which finished as the runner-up in the 2015 MLS Save of the Year competition, earned 45 per cent of the vote in the final round.

“I thought it was in,” Kekuta Manneh told whitecapsfc.com of the save. “But then the forward didn’t celebrate and we hesitated to clear it. I was like, ‘Can we rewind that? Can I see that again?’ I was trying to look at the jumbotron. It was crazy. It was unbelievable.”

“He knows what he’s doing before he has time to think about it because he’s been in situations like that before,” added Whitecaps FC goalkeeper coach Marius Rovde. “If you watch training and small-sided games, he has a couple saves like that almost every day.”

This past season, Ousted manned the net for a Whitecaps FC side that conceded the fewest goals in MLS (tied with Seattle Sounders FC). He also had 13 clean sheets (tied for the league-high), 16 wins (second in MLS), and three penalty saves (league-high).

For his efforts, Ousted finished second in voting for the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and was an MLS All-Star for the first time – he kept a second-half clean sheet against Tottenham Hotspur.
