VANCOUVER, BC – The 2016 Amway Canadian Championship will be broadcast coast-to-coast on TSN this June, Canada Soccer announced today.
It’s the first time that TSN will carry the tournament.
The competition kicks off with a two-leg preliminary round series between North American Soccer League sides Ottawa Fury FC and FC Edmonton on May 11 and May 18. TSN will then broadcast the two semifinal legs on June 1 and June 8, as well as the championship final on June 22 and June 28 or June 29.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC will begin their defence of the Voyageurs Cup against either Ottawa or Edmonton in one semifinal series, while Eastern Canadian MLS rivals Montreal Impact and Toronto FC will meet in the other.
The Amway Canadian Championship is a five-team tournament that crowns the top team in Canada. In addition to qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League, the winner also takes home the supporters-created Voyageurs Cup (which was first awarded in 2002).
Last year, the ‘Caps won their first-ever Voyageurs Cup after 13 years of heartbreak, defeating Montreal 4-2 on aggregate in the tournament final after knocking off FC Edmonton in the semifinal.
