The Canadian women’s national team are headed back to the Olympic semifinals.

Sophie Schmidt’s 56th-minute goal carried the Red and White to a 1-0 win over third-ranked France in Friday’s quarter-finals, securing Canada’s semifinal berth at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Schmidt, who grew up in Abbotsford, B.C., volleyed in the game’s only goal at the back post after a fantastic setup by Janine Beckie.

The 4W-0L-0D Canadians will now face Germany in the semifinals on Tuesday at 12 p.m. PT.

The other semifinal will feature Sweden, who upset the top-ranked U.S. earlier today, and the winner of Friday night’s quarter-final between Australia and host Brazil.

This is the second straight Olympic Games that Canada has qualified for the semifinals. In 2012, they suffered a controversial semifinal loss to the U.S., before beating France to win bronze.
