Canada Soccer announced today a pair of men’s international friendly matches for the October window on the FIFA international calendar. The two away matches are October 7 against Mauritania and October 11 against Morocco. Both matches will be played in Marrakech, Morocco.

For this camp and series of matches, Canada Soccer staff coach Michael Findlay will lead the men's national team as interim head coach.

Canada's squad will be announced in the last week of September.

The Canadians recently saw their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign come to an end, despite defeating El Salvador 3-1 in their group stage finale at BC Place. Vancouver Whitecaps FC defenders David Edgar and Marcel de Jong were both a part of the Canadian squad, with Edgar finding the back of the net against El Salvador. Canada’s unsuccessful qualifying campaign signalled the departure of Benito Floro as head coach.

This will mark Canada's first trip to Africa since November 2007 and their first match against an African opponent since a 1-1 draw with Ghana in October 2015 in Washington, DC.

In 2016, Morocco have posted five wins, three draws, and one loss in nine international matches. Morocco will face Gabon away on October 8 before facing Canada three days later.

Mauritania, meanwhile, have posted two wins, two draws, and one loss in four international matches this year. Canada last played Mauritania in a two-match series in September 2013.
