Possible scenarios for Wednesday's Champions League semifinal at BC Place

VANCOUVER, BC – After a 2-0 loss in the first leg, Vancouver Whitecaps FC host reigning Mexican champions Tigres UANL in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals on Wednesday night at BC Place (7 p.m. PT on TSN1 – tickets still available)


Here are the different scenarios that would send Vancouver to the tournament final, keeping in mind it’s a two-leg aggregate series and away goals are the tiebreaker.


Whitecaps FC advance with:

  • A win by at least three goals (3-0, 4-1, etc...)


The match will go to extra time with:

  • A 2-0 Whitecaps FC win


In the event of a 2-0 ‘Caps win, there will be 30 minutes of extra time (two 15-minute halves). The full 30 minutes must be played regardless of any goals scored and the away goals rule isno longer in effect. If the score is still tied at the end of extra time, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout.


Tigres advance with:

  • Any win
  • Any draw
  • A loss by one goal (0-1, 1-2, etc…)
  • A loss by two goals with at least one away goal (1-3, 2-4, etc…)
