It was a busy weekend for Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-14 Residency squads as they took to the field in sunny San Jose, California for the President’s Day Showcase to take on fellow pre-academy squads from Major League Soccer clubs LA Galaxy, hosts San Jose Earthquakes, and Portland Timbers.

Overall, the 1997-born U-14 group finished with a record of 1W-1L-1D, while the 1998-born U-14 squad ended the tournament at 2W-1L-0D.

Less than three weeks remain before the 17th season of Major League Soccer begins, and clubs continue to fine tune their rosters.

While players and coaches concentrate on the business of getting ready on the pitch this preseason, the league’s news headlines unsurprisingly occurred off the pitch, and there was certainly more than enough items to whet the appetite of MLS fans over the past seven days.

Let’s make a deal

Vancouver Whitecaps FC, in conjunction with Major League Soccer, announced today the schedule for the 2012 MLS Reserve League season. Whitecaps FC reserves will again play in the Western Conference, beginning their season away to LA Galaxy reserves on Monday, March 19.

VICTORIA, BC - Playing their third friendly match of the 2012 preseason, Vancouver Whitecaps FC (1W-0L-2D) defeated reigning Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) champions University of Victoria Vikes 2-1 in Victoria, BC, on Sunday afternoon.

Nearly a month into their preparations for the 2012 Major League Soccer season, Vancouver Whitecaps FC return to preseason action this weekend, as they visit Vancouver Island to take on University of Victoria Vikes at UVic’s Centennial Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. PT.
