Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency suffered a disappointing end to their two-game road trip to Washington State after falling 3-0 at Spokane Spiders on Saturday evening.

Despite out-shooting their hosts 19 to nine during their latest USL Premier Development League encounter, goals by John Prugh, Scott Davidson, and substitute Edward Prugh meant the Spiders took all three points from the weekend encounter at Spokane Falls Community College Arena.

Looking at the statistics from Saturday's game, it would have been hard to understand how Thomas Niendorf's side did not come away with something from the PDL Western Conference Northwest Division match-up.

Spokane claimed their advantage as early as 13 minutes, as a good passing move allowed Davidson to slip a ball through to John Prugh before he finished past Residency goalkeeper Simon Thomas for 1-0.

The visitors kept pressing forward up until the halftime break, but they were unable to break down the Spiders, who held on to their slender one-goal lead at the break.

On 51 minutes, Spokane scored their second goal in somewhat controversial circumstances, as Conor Baranski's ball over the top allowed Davidson to run in on the Vancouver goal. Though the Spiders player looked to be offside, the flag stayed down and Davidson was able to convert the home side's second goal of the game.

Things were not going the way of the Whitecaps, as they missed the chance to pull a goal back when Navid Mashinchi missed a penalty for the visitors.

On 76 minutes, the Residency team's hopes were ended with a third Spokane goal that also looked offside from the visitors' point of view. Tye Perdido's cross from the left found sub Edward Prugh at the far post, and although he looked to be in an offside position, the striker scored to ensure the struggling Spiders claimed an unlikely victory.

90 FULL MINUTES

The result sees Whitecaps Residency drop to second place in the PDL Western Conference Northwest Division standings, as Tacoma Tide returned to the divisional summit with a 4-3 win at Cascade Surge on Saturday.

With only three points separating the top three clubs in the division, Niendorf's side will now focus on finishing their inaugural PDL regular season campaign in strong fashion when they head for the American state of Utah to play BYU Cougars next Friday night and Ogden Outlaws on the following Saturday evening.
