A striker from Port Coquitlam, BC, A.J. Lopez joined Whitecaps FC Residency in Sept. 2011 after representing his home province of British Columbia.
Lopez is a product of Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club, where he played his youth soccer from 2002 to 2011. He started at house league level before moving up to Metro level, having last played for Metro-Ford Euro before moving to the Residency program. The striker was also a member of the BC provincial team program at the U-13 and U-14 levels. He also trained for two seasons in the Canadian Soccer Association’s National Training Centre program (British Columbia region) as a U-14 player.
Lopez represented Canada's U-15 boys' team at an eight-team tournament in Mexico in June 2012.
As a student, Lopez attended Edmonds Community School in Burnaby, BC, from 2001 to 2006 before attending Riverview Park Elementary School in Coquitlam, BC, in 2007. From 2008 to 2011, the striker attended Hillcrest Middle School in Coquitlam, BC, before moving to Dr. Charles Best Secondary School in Coquitlam, BC.
Lopez’s favourite teams are European giants Manchester United FC (England) and Real Madrid (Spain), while his favourite player is Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo. He hopes to play at Manchester United’s Old Trafford home one day. Off the soccer pitch, the striker enjoys spending time with friends, playing video games, and other sports. He is also a fan of Japanese food.
