A midfielder from Victoria, BC, Brian Im joined Whitecaps FC Residency in Sept. 2011 after playing on Vancouver Island and in the ‘Caps Prospects program.
VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC PROSPECTS
In 2010 and 2011, Im was a member of Whitecaps FC Prospects, where he trained under Residency staff coach Bart Choufour.
The midfielder started his soccer career in his hometown of Victoria, BC, with Gordon Head Soccer Association from 2005 to 2009. He played in the Lower Vancouver Island District Cup and BC Island Cup with Gordon Head, and in 2009, was named the club’s Most Improved Player. He was also an Island Cup Most Valuable Player. Between 2009 and 2010, Im also appeared for Victoria Capitals in the United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League and for the club’s U-14 Metro team during the 2010-11 season. The midfielder helped the U-14 Capitals win the Metro league and cup titles that year, as well as the BC U-14 Provincial Cup title. As a member of BC U-14 provincial team, Im helped his home province win a Western Canadian championship title in 2011 and was a member of the Canadian Soccer Association's National Training Centre (British Columbia region) program from 2010 to 2011.
As a student in Victoria, BC, Im attended Hillcrest Elementary School from 2005 to 2008, Arbutus Middle School from 2008 to 2010, and spent the 2010-11 school year at Gordon Head Middle School. As a member of the Residency program, the midfielder currently attends Burnaby North Secondary School in Burnaby, BC.
Im’s favourite soccer team is Spanish and European giants FC Barcelona, while his favourite players include Brazil legend Pele, Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi, and Santos FC and Brazil youngster Neymar. Im dreams of playing in Wembley Stadium in London, England, one day. When not playing soccer or going to school, he enjoys golf, table tennis, and spending time with friends. The midfielder’s favourite food is pasta.
