A product of Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club, David Norman jr. joined Whitecaps FC Residency in Sept. 2011 after recent training spells with professional clubs in Europe.  

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC PROSPECTS
Between the ages of nine and 12, Norman was a member of Whitecaps FC Prospects, where he trained under Residency staff coach Bart Choufour. With ‘Caps Prospects, Norman made the final of the prestigious Surf Cup youth tournament in San Diego, California.

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA
2011-12: In the summer of 2011, Norman trained with the academy set-up of German Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05.

YOUTH/AMATEUR
Norman started his soccer career with Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club at the age of four. From the club’s initiation academy to gold level, Metro level, and the United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League, the midfielder has represented his hometown club with distinction. He twice represented Western Canada at the Danone Nations Cup and captained Canada’s Danone Nations Cup team at the 2010 event in South Africa.

PERSONAL
A native of Coquitlam, BC, Norman attended Riverview Park Elementary School in his hometown before attending Coquitlam’s Hillcrest Middle School. The midfielder is the son of former Whitecaps FC and Canada midfielder David Norman sr. His father played for the Blue and White during the North American Soccer League years of 1981 to 1984. He also played for the current club - when it was known then as Vancouver 86ers - from 1991 to 1996. This included a Canadian Soccer League championship title in 1991 and four seasons with the club in the old American Professional Soccer League (1993 to 1996). Norman sr. made a total of 171 appearances for Vancouver, scoring 16 goals. Norman’s father also scored once in 51 international appearances for the Canadian national team. This included appearances at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

INTERESTING FACTS
The midfielder is a big fan of Scottish giants Rangers FC, while his favourite player is Manchester United’s Serbian centre back Nemanja Vidic. Norman selected the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico, as a stadium he would like to play in one day. Outside of soccer, Norman enjoys playing basketball and table tennis, as well as reading and doing Sudoku puzzles. His pregame superstition includes a pre-game meal of oatmeal, a banana, and a smoothie. However, the midfielder’s favourite meal is steak.
