Manraj Bains joins Whitecaps FC after spending three seasons with Surrey United Soccer Club. The sturdy defender is born and raised in Surrey.
Prior to playing with Surrey United Soccer Club, Bains spent seven years (2003-2010) within the Shuswap Youth Soccer Association, participating in their annual winter leagues. He also made an appearance with Surrey FC in the 2010 Y-League Championship in Florida. Bains then joined BCSPL squad Surrey United SC from 2010-2013 before finally joining the 'Caps. Provincially, the Surrey native has played for the British Columbia provincial team at the U-14 level in 2011, for the U-15’s in 2012 and for the U-16’s, this past summer.
Bains was a part of Whitecaps FC’s Prospects squad that advanced all the way to the finals of the 2010 Surf Cup, in San Diego.
The 5-foot-11 defender is at Tamanawis Secondary, with an expected graduation in 2015.
Bains aspires to play soccer at the post-secondary level and play for the Canadian national team. He dreams of one day playing at BC Place, the home of Whitecaps FC’s first team. He supports Manchester United of the Barclays Premier League, while his favourite player is Sergio Ramos, star defender for Real Madrid FC and the Spanish National team. His pre-game ritual is to touch the turf and chest with his hand, prior to kickoff. When away from the pitch, Bains enjoys exercising and spending time with his friends. His favourite food is pasta.
