Matthew Chow

PROFILE
A former Whitecaps FC Prospects player, striker Matthew Chow returns to the club after spending the 2011-12 season with EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) club Fusion FC.
YOUTH/AMATEUR
The 5-foot-6 attacker began his youth soccer career with Kerrisdale in 2004 and stayed there until 2006. During this time, he also played for Whitecaps FC Prospects (2005) and Total Soccer Systems (TSS) Academy (2005-2007) at Richmond-based Sportstown. Later, he played for Richmond Youth Soccer Association from 2006 to 2009.
From 2007 to 2009, Chow played for Whitecaps FC Prospects U-11 and U-13 teams before shifting to Delta Selects Metro U-14 A for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He also played for Mountain FC’s Super Y U-13 team in 2009. Then from 2010 to 2011, Chow played with Richmond United Metro U-16 A before heading to Fusion FC U-16 in 2011 for the BCSPL season.
Chow has been involved with the National Training Centre (NTC) program since 2009 and has been in the BC Soccer Provincial Team Program at U-14 and U-15 levels in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
His personal achievements include winning the National Championship with Team BC in 2010 and being named a First Team All-Star at the 2009 Super Y North American Championship.
PERSONAL
Chow has been a student at Vancouver College since kindergarten and is currently in the tenth grade. His parents are Kevin Chow and Mei Lau.
INTERESTING FACTS
Chow’s favourite team is FC Barcelona and the soccer players he idolizes are Barca duo Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta as well as legendary pair Pele and Ferenc Puskas. The most influential person in his soccer development has been Dr. Joe Csabai – “He’s been my mentor in both soccer and life and his knowledge about the world game is tremendous.” Outside of soccer, Chow enjoys playing golf (he has a handicap of 5), basketball, music and chess.
