Nike Azuma, a native of North Vancouver, is a versatile player whom is able to play in the backline and the midfield. Azuma joins Whitecaps FC from CS Brétigny Football Club, a partner club of AJ Auxerre, a Ligue 2 French side.
Before joining CS Brétigny, Azuma played for Coquitlam Metro Ford in 2011 and Mountain United FC in 2012. The promising youth player has a fair amount of experience at the provincial level, having played on the U-13 (2008) and the U-14 (2009) BC provincial teams, as well as the National Training Centre teams in that same period. He was a part of the British Coumbia side, that took home the gold medal at the U-14 national championships in 2009.
The 5-foot-7 utility player is in his senior year at Handsworth Secondary School. He holds a dual citizenship in Canada and Japan.
Azuma’s favourite club to watch is FC Barcelona, and would like to play at Camp Nou one day, the home of the Spanish Giants. He ranks the Canadian born Jonathan de Guzman and Japanese star Keisuke Honda. Away from the pitch, Azuma is very family-orientated- citing his parents as the biggest inspirations in his life and his mother’s cooking as his favourite food.
