PROFILE
A dual Canadian-Cuban citizen, promising young goalkeeper William Diaz enters his second season in the Residency program.
 

UNITED STATES SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
2012-13: In his first season, the Port Coquitlam, BC native started all 12 of his regular season appearances for Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency.

YOUTH/AMATEUR
After moving to British Columbia, Diaz began playing youth soccer with Port Coquitlam Gold U-12 and U-13 squads. He later won a silver medal at the San Marino Cup - the largest Italian youth soccer tournament, played in the Republic of San Marino on the Adriatic Coast of Italy. Diaz was also part fo the BC Soccer Provincial Development Program at the U-15 and U-16 levels, capturing a silver medal with Team BC at the Canada Games, while also participating in the National Training Centre. He was also part of the North Fraser Selects from the U-14 to U-16 level from 2009-2011. Prior to joining Whitecaps FC, Diaz played with Coquitlam Metro-Ford U-17 2011-2012 in the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League.
    
PERSONAL
A dual citizen, Diaz was originally born in Cardenas, Cuba, before moving to Port Coquitlam, BC. The young goalkeeper attended Pitt River Middle School before moving on to Pinetree Secondary School. He currently attends Burnaby Central Secondary School in the 12th grade.
 
INTERESTING FACTS
When not playing soccer, Diaz enjoys playing baseball and listening to music. A native of Cuba, Diaz speaks both English and Spanish. He lists his father Carlos as his role model who has had the greatest impact on him, and Dante Zanatta and Luca Dalla Pace as his mentors. His favorite club to watch is Spanish giants Real Madrid, while his favorite player is their stud goalkeeper Iker Casillas. He one day dreams of playing at BC Place, home of Whitecaps FC. His favorite food is pasta.
