Girls Prospects win first game in Idaho

Whitecaps U-16 Girls Prospects take on Boise Capitals U-16 Girls at the Idaho Invitational Challenge on Friday.
Vancouver Whitecaps U-16 Girls Prospects defeated Boise Capitals U-16 side 6-2 in their opening game at the Idaho Invitational Challenge on Friday.

Jesse Symons' side ran out to a 4-1 halftime lead in the late afternoon contest, with Karm Jawandah putting the Whitecaps in front after four minutes. Boise equalized a minute later before Katie Turney and Melissa Horahan made it 3-1 to Vancouver.

Horahan scored her second goal on 32 minutes before Whitecaps goalkeeper Gurveen Clair preserved their three-goal lead with a penalty save on 37 minutes.

Three minutes after halftime, Nicole Setterlund headed home Turney's free kick to make it 5-1 before Boise struck again on the hour mark.

The Whitecaps completed a fine first win in the tournament when Taylor Shannik volleyed Turney's corner kick home for the 6-2 victory.

The U-16 Girls will face Les Bois United U-16 side from Idaho and FC Willamette U-17's from Oregon on Saturday.
