Okanagan School Academy

The Vancouver Whitecaps in collaboration with the North Okanagan Youth Soccer Association and School District #22 are offering a formal high performance training academy for grade 8 to 12 male and female students/athletes that operates in the school timetable, with a commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
NEW 2013/2014 PROGRAM INFORMATION
To participate in the 2013/2014 school academy players must attend an open evaluation with our Whitecaps FC Head Coach to assess suitability. Selected players will then be supplied a link to register for the program.
Space is limited and players must be evaluated for selection.

ELIGIBILITY
- Male or female Grades 8 to 12
- Students/athletes must be able to manage acceptable academic progress while advancing soccer and life skills.
- Students/athletes must be registered in one of the secondary schools in School District #22 located in the Okanagan Valley of south central British Columbia. The district provides excellent educational services to approximately 8500 students and 300 adults.
- All participating schools; Clarence Fulton, Kalamalka, W.L.Seaton and Vernon Secondary, are on a common timetable allowing accommodation of course scheduling with speciality programs.
SCHEDULE

September 2013 through January 2014 at the VantageOne Indoor Soccer Centre in Vernon
- Sept. to Oct is 'outdoor' training on Marshall Fields, Oct to Jan is 'indoor'
The School academy includes 2 programs:

Junior - Grades 8 to 9
- Provides focus on technical development and speed/agility

College Prep - Grades 10 to 12
- As part of a curriculum participants will receive information and support to pursue scholastic opportunities or Whitecaps programming opportunities
Students/Athletes:
- Are bussed from their home school in District #22 to and from the VantageOne Centre
- Remain in their home school in District #22 for all other curriculum courses and subjects
- Attend the centre for 1/2 days Monday to Friday, the equivalent of two time blocks that rotate weekly from morning to afternoon sessions.

CURRICULUM
Field Technical Development
- In addition to skill development there will be a focus on speed of play, team play including positional play, and movement off the ball.
Speed, strength and power training sessions
- The goal will be to improve speed, agility and reaction times of the athlete, enhance flexibility, increase core strength and maximize the power potential.
Sport Nutrition
- Eating right for performance, pre-game, post-game, hydration and more.
Sport Psychology
- Sport psychology is sometimes called mental preparation or training, mind games, or mind over matter.
- The aim is to play at peak performance in every match.
Assessment and Evaluation
- Formal assessments will be done that include a series of field tests to measure progress.
- Formal reports will be shared with students and parents.
LOCATION
The program operates out of the VantageOne Soccer Centre in Vernon, which is a Whitecaps FC Academy Centre. This Academy Centre will connect the Okanagan to Vancouver through key staff, curriculum and standards as well as an upcoming network of Whitecaps Academy Centres across Canada.

HOMESTAY OR COMMUTE?
If you do not live in the School District #22 catchment area and daily driving (carpooling) to the program is not a preferred option, the school district has a well-structured homestay program. More info is available on the School District #22 website at http://sd22.bc.ca//international/living.htm.

- Players must be evaluated to attend the program

PROGRAM FEES
Payment Information:
- Payment 1 - $250 + tax deposit upon confirming your registration
- Payment 2 - $375 + tax due September 7. 1/2 the overall $1250 before tax ($625 - $250 deposit received)
- Payment 3 - $625 + tax due November 1. Remaining balance.
- For all payments you will receive an email to pay online and can choose either credit card or cheque.
Apparel: All new players require a 2013 Whitecaps FC training kit. One-time fee, valid for at least two years. To view sizing information, click here.
- Official Whitecaps FC Academy training kit (shorts, shirt, socks) - $75 + tax
- Official Whitecaps FC Academy track suit - $65 + tax
Payment Policies:
- A non-refundable $25 administration fee is included in the registration
- NSF cheques are subject to a $20 administration fee
- Refunds are only issued for medical reasons with a doctor's note
- Approved refunds include prorating the registration less a non-refundable $25 administration fee
