'Caps to College

The Whitecaps are introducing a new program to its BMO Academy Centre Pathway. The University Prep Academy will only be launched in select centres this fall with the Kootenays Academy being selected as one. This new academy program will be the best tool available to give Kootenay players the multiple opportunities to showcase themselves for soccer at the post-secondary level. 


1. U15 to U18 Selection only - For players looking for the best opportunity to play in College, University, and beyond
2. Training and conditioning - Focused on qualities noticed by college and university scouts
3. Showcasing - get noticed at Showcase's and special events
4. Scholarship Strategy - Map and execute your post-secondary strategy

Kootenay Program

  • West & South Kootenay Program - based in Nelson
  • East Kootenay Program - based in Cranbrook
  • Monthly Kootenay Meetups - based in Creston

Selection only, written application and evaluation process

  • Ages U15 to U18 (2004 to 2001). Invite only with limited space
    • Junior: Grade 9 to 10 - U15 to U16 Boys & Girls Teams
    • Senior: Grade 11 to 12 - U17 to U18 Boys & Girls Teams

Training and preparation

  • Annual training program over 10 months, September though June
  • Skills focused on those prized by collegiate coaches
  • Fall - 2 training sessions a week, 22 sessions
  • Winter - 2 training sessions a week, 22 sessions
  • Spring - 1 training session a week, 11 sessions
  • 4 local prep competitive events
  • Testing and evaluation for conditioning at a university level
  • All sessions delivered by Whitecaps FC Kootenay Regional Coaches, Sam Heap & Reynold Stewart
  • Visits by Whitecaps FC Kootenay Head Coach, Brett Adams

Showcasing and events

  • 2 Showcase tournaments
  • Training and match trip to Vancouver included within the above

Scholarship Strategy - Education & Support

  • Give yourself more opportunities with a multi-school strategy
  • Presentations & Workshops
    • Delivered by Whitecaps Manager of Collegiate Transition, Ryan Clark
    • Grade 9 to 10: Workshop provided to families covering all aspects of collegiate play and what they need to do to get there
    • Grade 11 to 12: Each family will receive an individual consultation via Facetime/Skype to map their pathway. 
  • Profile on Whitecaps FC Collegiate Recruitment website; marketed to coaches across North America at all levels of post-secondary play
    • Support to build the right profile
    • Profiles and highlight videos posted and marketing on our collegiate recruiting platform

Key Event Schedule

Program Fees

All accepted players will be asked to commit to the following annual payment information. 

  • $160 + tax due upon acceptance into the program
  • $160 + tax in monthly payments from your credit card on the first day of each month starting October 1, 2018 to June 1, 2018

The above fees will cover 55 on-field training sessions throughout the year, along with at least 1 monthly regional meet-up which will include baseline fitness testing, scholarship workshops, nutrition education, tournament prep sessions. The program includes 2 tournaments throughout the year where transportation, accomodation, food, and supervision will all be included however the cost of the tournaments are not included in this monthly payment plan


  • All NEW players require a WFC training kit and track suit
  • One-time fee, valid for at least two years
  • Mandatory - Training kit (shorts, shirt, socks) - $90 + tax
  • Mandatory - Track suit (jacket, pants) - $105 + tax
