NSDC Facility Manager

National Soccer Development Centre (NSDC) on the University of British Columbia (UBC) Campus.

The NSDC Facility Manager will play a key role in the final stages of the Club’s move-in to the facility and its initial operations. A seasoned and experienced facility manager, the individual will be required to establish administrative and procedural processes and policies to ensure efficient and smooth operations.

Term: Twelve (12) Month contract position (with potential for future full time employment)

Reporting Structure: The NSDC Facility Manager will report to the VP, Finance and Administration, but will work closely with the Whitecaps FC soccer operations team based at the NSDC.

Core Responsibilities

Management:

  • Oversee daily facility operations and manages overall relationship with key UBC departments (Building Operations and Athletics & Recreation).
  • Monitor and evaluate kitchen and catering operating model
  • Direct and lead the negotiation of NSDC specific contracts and manage vendor relationships (as applicable) and work with Club Office Manager to optimize overall office services contracts specific to the NSDC facility.
  • Establish and facilitate training and compliance with all facility standard operating procedures.
  • Manage the NSDC operating budget.
  • Evaluate the potential of revenue positive opportunities and, if warranted, create a strategic plan and associated budget for accretive revenue (considerations to include events, catering, programming, etc. in consultation with other relevant departments).

Administration:

  • Ensure that administrative functionality is maintained (IT, phones, printers, rooms booking system, etc.) by establishing efficient processes and troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Overall responsibility to ensure NSDC central services (office supplies, mail, courier, shipping, receiving) are performing effectively.

Facility Operations & Maintenance:

  • Manage, and implement a facility booking procedure (fields and rooms where required) that properly accommodates all user groups within the Whitecaps and considers multiple, and sometimes competing, internal priorities.
  • Co-ordinate and manage the move-in plan and transition plan for the Club’s Residency Program, currently located at 8-Rinks.
  • Working closely with Soccer Operations and the Heads of Team Operations, manage NSDC FF&E purchases.
  • Oversee facility security (proper operation of security measures and equipment) and develop security plan, including management of the bio-metric entry/exit system.
  • Ensure that all building operations documents are kept up to date and are in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  • In conjunction with the NSDC Head Landscaper and UBC Athletics & Recreation, review the grounds-keeping operations plan, and ensure the satisfactory implementation and delivery of grounds keeping operations (grass field, artificial turf, landscaping).
  • Develop a protocol to address all aspects of building maintenance
  • Manage and evaluate ongoing relationship with janitorial contractor. Establish cleanliness standards and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Direct the execution of any new NSDC special events or projects.
  • Liaise with UBC unionized staff and NSDC users to maintain building safety and system functionality (HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
  • Manage the facility parking plan.
  • Ensure that building equipment is functional and conduct minor maintenance duties, as required, or arrange for repair if required.

Human Resources:

  • Working closely with HR, develop a strategic plan to ensure integration of between NSDC and Whitecaps FC downtown Front Office (with key focus on operational efficiencies such as mail and technology, and staff engagement & inclusiveness).

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in relevant disciplines would be an asset.

Knowledge/Abilities

Manager, Partnership Sales

The Partnership Sales department of Vancouver Whitecaps FC is a fast-paced, and results oriented environment. The Manager, Partnership & Hospitality Sales is a sales focused role in which the successful candidate needs to be comfortable with cold calls, generating new leads and managing the sales pipeline for sponsorship (secondarily hospitality). S/he will be expected to deliver on aggressive sales targets and to continuously generate leads to grow sponsorship, and advertising revenue.

Reporting structure: Based in Vancouver at the club’s head office, the Manager, Partnership Sales reports directly to the Director, Corporate Partnerships.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate new sponsorship revenue through partnership and advertising sales for both Whitecaps FC (MLS) and WFC2 (USL), including the club’s growing soccer development programs.
  • Play a key role in filling the sponsorship new business pipeline year-round by researching identified prospects and creating a detailed sales strategy for each.
  • Prospect, negotiate and close deals that focus specifically on sponsorship and advertising revenues for the organization, with a secondary focus on hospitality/suite sales.
  • Work with the Partnerships team to initiate and grow sustainable client relationships.
  • Maintain an indirect relationship with the Ticket Sales team to ensure continuity of messaging and leads tracking between departments.
  • Generate new corporate revenue by identifying prospective clients and strategic partners through various channels.
  • Create, organize and maintain sponsor and advertiser contracts as well as other legal documents.
  • Assist in the creation and management of the organization’s sales process and strategies for sponsorship.
  • Help define and establish new sponsorship properties within the organization, in partnership with colleagues and other internal departments.
  • Prepare proposals, presentations and reports for the Director, Corporate Partnerships and other club executives.
  • Keep up to date with current developments in the sports marketing industry (specifically sponsorship and corporate hospitality) and utilize this information to guide strategy for potential new proposals and properties.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and working knowledge of soccer, the MLS and Whitecaps FC as well as the competitive landscape in Canada, North America and around the globe.
  • Collaborate and work closely with Partnership Marketing to assist in delivery of contractual partnership elements, events and match day hosting opportunities including coordination of corporate suites each match.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC are looking for highly organized, professional and friendly individuals for to be considered for our Inside Sales & Service Representative Team.

This is a term position ending November 2017.

How you will contribute:

  • Participate in our Internal Sales & Service Training Program
  • Help grow our supporter base by identifying and facilitating new ticket sales
  • Generate ticket sales revenue through lead generation and qualifying prospects
  • Generate contacts through both inside and outside sales networking opportunities
  • Develop and maintain relationships through excellent customer service
  • Assist with Game day duties, as required
  • Communicate and carry out service policies and procedures to Season Ticket Holders in the most professional manner
  • Maintain computerized records of all clients and prospects via ticketing software; and,
  • Provide support during special events and promotions, as required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Academy Centre Coaches

(VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN BC AND CANADA)

Youth Academy Coaches provide on and off field leadership for Whitecaps Academy Centre programming.  Vancouver Whitecaps FC is currently seeking passionate and qualified coaches with the technical skills, experience and personal suitability to coach, mentor and develop young players.  You will also have the administrative expertise to oversee all financial and administrative requirements, and the ability to network and promote the Centre within the community.   While assigned as Coach in one area, you may also connect and service other Whitecaps Academy centre programming and camp events in Vancouver and other regional and national locations as required.

  • The salary range for these positions will depend on the experience of the coach

Support curriculum development and coaching delivery of all Academy Centre training programs and camps.  This includes, but not is not limited to:

Academy Centre promotion and networking  

Working to promote Academy Centre and camp programs with local club and key community groups and individuals; media contacts; and school administration and faculty.

Academy Centre coaching development    

Develop an Academy centre staff to deliver regional programs, including the recruitment and development of local coaches with potential.   

Academy Centre Technical Services contracts

Lead the delivery of any agreed upon technical services contracts with local clubs or organizations. This includes providing:

  • TD Services.
  • Coaching development sessions.
  • Player development sessions.  

Represent the Club in the soccer community, with emphasis on building rapport with community clubs.

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS REQUIRED

  1. Minimum National B Coaching License or UEFA / international equivalent
  2. Two (2) years experience as a coach of an elite group of athletes
  3. Professional or semi-professional soccer playing experience an asset
  4. Knowledge of and support for the CSA LTPD model and Wellness to World Cup framework.
  5. A proven track record and a passion for both grassroots and high performance programs.
  6. Experience with coaching both male and female soccer and the design of associated  programs
  7. Knowledge of elite player systems and how they differ and integrate with community programs.
  8. Experience directly managing, mentoring and motivating highly qualified, elite coaches.
  9. Experience with and a passion for the education and development of coaches at all levels.
  10. An understanding of the structure of competitive youth soccer and how it relates to optimal player development.
  11. Knowledge of the Canadian soccer landscape, and the challenges and opportunities it presents to grassroots and high performance player development.
  12. Experience managing technical budgets and associated cost management and reporting.
  13. An ability to think and plan strategically, and effectively link technical planning with broader Club goals and strategic intent.
  14. Strong communications skills and an ability to convey technical planning to non‐technical Club stakeholders, including the parents of players.

Family Suite Host, Soccer Operations

Reports to:  Specialist, First Team Operations and Head of First Team Operations

Position Description

Working with First Team Operations, this role coordinates the Family Suite and Family Lounge at all First Team home matches at BC Place Stadium. This role includes duties before, during, and after the match. The time commitment will be approximately five hours per match and the days required can be found by referencing the MLS home schedule at whitecapsfc.com.

Responsibilities

To help achieve the First Team Operations goals of operational and service excellence, the Family Suite Host has the following key responsibilities:

1. Operational Excellence

  • Ensuring that families enjoy a consistent guest experience;
  • Ensuring the space is clean and tidy;
  • Ensuring the food and beverage is on time, is of sufficient amount, and is presented according to standards;
  • Ensuring that accreditation and security procedures are adhered to;
  • Ensuring that childminding staff communicate directly on any issues.

2. Service Excellence

  • Assist in the building of relationships amongst guests in the Family Suite and Family Lounge
  • Having familiarity with the venue amenities to provide accurate information to guests and ensuring that all guest enquiries are dealt with in a pleasant and efficient manner;
  • Ensuring that Whitecaps FC policies and procedures are adhered to, including but not limited to: stadium fire regulations, public and personal safety, crowd management, customer service, etc.

3. Specific Responsibilities:

  • Checking in with the Specialist, First Team Operations upon arrival for a match-day briefing;
  • Operating as a team member within the First Team Operations and Events Department to ensure all set-up and strike are completed in a timely manner:
    • Setting up the Family Suite and Family Lounge space prior to guests arriving
    • Clearing the Family Suite and Family Lounge space after the guests have left
  • Liaising with the stadium staff to ensure that all elements are in place (example: ensuring bathrooms are clean, security is in place, food and beverage are as ordered etc.),
  • Ensuring that all guests have appropriate accreditation upon arrival;
  • Knowledge of radio protocols and functions
  • Manage post-match pitch access process for families (i.e wristbands)
  • Collect feedback and debrief with First Team Operations
    • Other duties may be assigned as required
