A native of Vancouver, BC, Gabriel Escobar first joined the Whitecaps FC academy in August 2015 after previously playing with Mountain United FC.
DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
2018-2019: Made 10 starts and 13 appearances for the U-19s, including three playoff matches. 2017-2018: In his third season in the Academy, Escobar started in 20 of 24 regular season matches for Whitecaps FC U-19. He went on to start three of fives matches in the playoffs and helped the U-19's reach the semi-finals. 2016-2017: Escobar appeared and started in 24 matches for the U-16 team adding three goals. In the playoffs he started three matches for the club. Escobar also made four appearances for the U-18 team, and three appearances in their playoff run. 2015-16: Escobar started 15 of his 24 regular season appearances for Whitecaps FC Residency U-16 in his first year with the club, scoring one goal. In the playoffs, he made one start in three matches played.
INTERNATIONAL
2018: Escobar represented his native El Salvador at the 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship, making three starts. 2017: Escobar was called to the Canadian U-17 team in April for their preparation camp in Toronto under coach Paul Stalteri. 2016: Escobar was called up to the Canadian U-17 team four times during the year - an evaluation camp in Burnaby in February, a training camp in the United States in April, and then for the September series in Panama, and the November series in Jamaica. He was a nominee for the Canadian U-17 Player of the Year award. 2015: Escobar participated in the U-18 development camp in October. 2014: Escobar earned his first Canadian national team call-up at 14, participating in a U-15 identification camp in October.

Escobar was six years old when he moved from his native El Salvador to Canada.
