Caps Add Three For Galaxy Match

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today they have signed free agents Omar Jarun, Darren Spicer and Joey Worthen to two-week trial contracts.

Jarun, 23, joins the Whitecaps after playing the previous two seasons with the Atlanta Silverbacks. The six-foot-five, 205-pound centre back played in 19 regular-season games and recorded one assist in 1,542 minutes last season with Atlanta. The native of Peachtree City, Georgia, also played in every minute in the Silverbacks run to the United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) championship match. In his rookie season of 2006, Jarun played in 26 matches, recorded one goal and two assists in 1,528 minutes.

Prior to joining the ‘Backs, Jarun was a forward at Dayton University from 2004 to 2005. In his senior year, he was named to the All-Atlantic 10 team after scoring 10 goals and adding seven assists. From 2002 to 2004, he attended the University of Memphis.

Spicer, 24, comes to Vancouver following a very successful first-year campaign with the Minnesota Thunder. The five-foot-eleven, 165-pound forward scored two goals and added three assists in 17 games for 1,255 minutes. Spicer’s seven points placed him fourth in team scoring.

A native of Diamond Bar, California, Spicer was a standout at Princeton University, earning Ivy League Player of the Year honours in 2004 and was twice named a first-team All-Ivy League pick (2004 and 2005). Spicer scored 27 goals during his tenure at Princeton and still ranks 12th all-time in points with 58.

Worthen, 28, joins the Caps as a five-year USL-1 veteran. During the 2007 season, the six-foot-one, 185-pound midfielder was a member of the expansion Carolina RailHawks. During his time in Carolina, Worthen scored three goals and added one assist in 22 games for 1,632 minutes. Prior to joining the RailHawks, the native of Salt Lake City, Utah played for Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer in 2006. The midfielder has also played for the now defunct Pittsburgh Riverhounds (2002-2003) and Richmond Kickers (2004-2005).

Worthen played college soccer at the University of South Carolina from 1998 to 2001, where he scored 24 goals and added 15 assists.
