Caps Residency claim goalless draw

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency drew 0-0 with the U-19 Junior Bundesliga side of Jahn Regensburg on Thursday. In the third match of the group’s two-week trip to Germany, head coach Thomas Niendorf gave nearly every member of his squad at least 45 minutes of action against their Bavarian hosts.Despite making six changes at the start of the second half, Whitecaps Residency dominated for the majority of the contest. Unfortunately, the Canadian visitors found the Jahn Regensburg goalkeeper in fine form, as he made several outstanding saves to keep the game scoreless.Though Thursday’s match finished in a goalless draw, it proved to be a competitive contest that was played at a high tempo against another quality German youth side. The result also be a further boost to the Residency group, who performed well in one-goal defeats to the U-19 Junior Bundesliga teams of Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich earlier this week.Niendorf’s squad will be back in action on Saturday, as they take on the U-19 Junior Bundesliga squad of VfB Stuttgart. Whitecaps Residency will also play a combined U-19/U-23 team from 1860 Munich on October 30 before completing their German tour schedule with a friendly against amateur club SC Zwiesel of the Lower Bavaria Bezirksoberliga on October 31.
