Vancouver Whitecaps FC affiliates Coastal WFC and Mountain WFC are sending a record-tying six youth teams to the United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League North American Finals November 16 to 20 in Tampa, Florida. Coastal WFC will be sending their U-13 and U-15 Boys teams, while Mountain WFC are sending their U-14 and U-16 Boys squads, as well as with their U-15 and U-16 Girls sides. The six-team total ties the number of teams that the Whitecaps sent down to Florida for the 2006 North American Finals. In addition to qualifying six teams for the North American Finals, both Coastal WFC and Mountain WFC were ranked in the top ten out of over 115 clubs in the Super Y club rankings for the 2007 season. Mountain WFC finished as the number three-ranked club, while Coastal WFC finished as the number 10-ranked club. The rankings recognize the top Super Y clubs in North America. In 2006, the Whitecaps sent six teams to Florida. They included the U-13 and U-17 Boys teams and the U-15 and U-16 Girls sides, while the U-15 and U-16 Boys squads advanced to the semifinals last year. They were also the number three-ranked club overall in the 2006 Super Y club rankings.

“We’re very pleased that we have been able to continue the Whitecaps record representation at the North American Finals,” said Whitecaps youth director Dan Lenarduzzi. “In just their inaugural season, our affiliates Coastal WFC and Mountain WFC have had success not only on the field, but off as well by sending six teams to Florida and both achieving top-10 rankings in North America.” “We are very excited to be involved in a national championship with two teams in our inaugural season,” said Coastal WFC technical director Colin Elmes. “I am certain that the experience we will gain from being at the Super Y North American Finals will help us to continue to improve on the club’s top-ten finish this year. Any results that we will gain in the tournament will just be icing on the cake.” “It has been a great first year for Mountain WFC reaching the Super Y Finals with four teams and a number-three ranking,” said Mountain WFC technical director Hubert Busby. “A lot of credit for our on, and off-field performance needs to go to our players and staff, in particular GM Lisa Kipling, for the success we have had. We are looking forward to meeting some of North America’s best in Florida.” The Super Y-League North American Finals, regarded as the top youth soccer event in North America, is a five-day tournament that includes over 130 of the best youth soccer teams in the US and Canada from U-13 to U-17 age groups for boys and girls. Teams qualify from their respective regions and face the best from around North America in a quest to become league champions. The event will include over 5,000 players, parents and spectators. The 2006 finals featured teams from Vancouver to Miami, with squads representing some of the top professional clubs in North America like Major League Soccer's DC United and Red Bull New York. This year's event will begin on Thursday, November 15th, with the first day of matches being played on Friday, November 16th. Championship matches are schedule for Tuesday, November 20th.
