Sixth Annual Read-a-thon at James Gilmore Elementary School

On Friday, January 18, over 400 elementary school students kicked off the sixth Annual Read-a-thon at James Gilmore Elementary School.

Vancouver Whitecaps Residency player Greg Smith was on hand to speak to the kids about the importance of reading and the impact it has had on his life. He followed up by reading Franklin Plays the Game and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, and finished off the day with a skills performance.

The Read-a-thon is the largest fundraising event held at James Gilmore, and encourages kids to develop a lifelong interest in reading, while also raising funds for needed items such as library books, computers and other supplies. The goal for 2008 is to reach 250,000 minutes of reading during their month-long initiative.
