Vancouver Whitecaps FC have announced that the Whitecaps men’s team will play a three-match preseason schedule as part of the team’s preparations for the start of the 2008 season. The first match will see the Whitecaps travel to the University of Victoria on Sunday, March 9, to play the Vikes at Centennial Stadium. The preseason tilt in Victoria, which will be presented by Wendy’s Restaurants, will also include a match between the Whitecaps U-18 Girls Prospects and the Vikes women’s squad earlier in the day.
“The preseason matches are a very important piece in our preparation for the start of a new season,” said Whitecaps men’s team head coach Teitur Thordarson. “These matches will coincide with a series of scrimmages that we have already started against the Whitecaps Residency team, as well as local university sides. By the time the regular season opens, we will have played close to 10 matches.”

Prior to the Whitecaps preseason match against the Seattle Sounders, the Whitecaps will have a scrimmage against the Portland Timbers on Thursday, March 20, in Tukwila, Washington.
The Whitecaps are currently in their sixth week of their eight-week preseason-training program. The official training camp is set to open on Saturday, March 15, at the Whitecaps Training Centre on the campus of Simon Fraser University.
