Caps affiliates announce staff and dates

Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the British Columbia Soccer Association (BCSA) have announced the 2008 WFC Super Y-League affiliates coaching staff and program dates. Coastal WFC, Mountain WFC and Surrey WFC have all put their head coaching staffs in place for the 2008 season, as well as key program dates and evaluations. “The objective of the WFC affiliate program is to provide both players and coaches with more elite development opportunities,” said Whitecaps director of youth Dan Lenarduzzi. “This provides an opportunity for the participating clubs within the WFC affiliate to further develop their staff and players in a professional and competitive environment.” All WFC affiliate coaching selections have been reviewed and approved by the BCSA and the Whitecaps.

Mountain WFC are building on their success in 2007 with an experienced staff led by technical director Hubert Busby. On the Boys side, this includes Darren Rath as head coach of the U-13 Boys, while Andrea Agnoloni moves up from the U-13s to coach the U-14 Boys. Tony Francisco will return after a successful campaign with the U-14s to lead the U-15 Boys, while Les Krivak will be in charge of the U-16 Boys. The Girls staff includes U-13 Girls head coach Chris Venditti and U-14 Girls head coach Adam Day. At the U-15 Girls head coach Carlo Alberti will be back for his second season. Former Vancouver Whitecap, and 2007 Mountain WFC assistant Richard Goddard will manage the U-16 Girls. Coastal WFC head into this season following an impressive 2007 campaign. The 2008 staff are led by technical director Colin Elmes and include former Whitecaps and Canada star Carl Valentine as U-13 Boys head coach, and former Vancouver 86ers star Gregor Young as U-14 Boys head coach. Both Valentine and Young will enter their second season with Coastal WFC after reaching the North American Finals in 2007. Mark McQueen is in charge of the U-15 Boys, while Dennis Kindel will lead the U-16 Boys. For the Girls, Coastal WFC has confirmed that Ajit Braich will be returning for his second season this time leading the U-13 Girls. Former Whitecaps Women’s player Sandi Potis will be in charge of the U-14 Girls, while Coastal WFC technical director Colin Elmes will handle the U-15 Girls. Former Whitecaps men’s team player Jag Sagan steps in as the U-16 Girls head coach. Surrey WFC enters their inaugural season with a solid staff led by technical director and current Whitecaps men’s team Captain Jeff Clarke. The staff includes Frank McCann as U-13 Boys head coach, Paolo Serafini as U-14 Boys head coach, Sukhi Sandhu as U-13 Girls head coach, and Dave Irvine as U-14 Girls head coach. All WFC affiliates will be announcing assistants and team managers in the coming weeks. Final details are being put in place for evaluation dates and program structure. The first week of evaluations are set to occur between March 25 and 28, with all evaluations completed and rosters finalized by April 11. Evaluation registration will be available on-line through the WFC affiliates’ websites and at whitecapsfc.com by Wednesday, March 5. WFC affiliate training will begin mid-April, with the season set to begin in the middle of May and running to the end of July.
