Prospects top Shutoku in friendly

Vancouver Whitecaps U-17 Boys proved too much for Japanese club Shutoku following an 8-0 victory in the Netherlands on Monday. Poor weather caused the cancellation of the scheduling one-day BVV Barendrecht tournament that Bart Choufour's team were due to participate in. Soon after the news of the tournament's cancellation, the Whitecaps immediately arranged a friendly against Japanese club Shutoku in the Dutch city of Nijmegen. Shutoku are ranked as a top-four team from the Japanese capital of Tokyo. The first half-hour started very well for the Whitecaps, as Brayden Gant got Vancouver on the board early with a thunderous strike from 20 yards out. The remaining part of the first 30 minutes was very even, with the Japanese team dominating possession, while the Whitecaps created the better chances. On 28 minutes, Sahil Sandhu who doubled the Whitecaps lead. In the second half, the Whitecaps created more chances with varied attacking play, while also claiming more control of the game. Their defensive positioning also started to cut out more of the Japanese passing play. After Pardeep Bains had struck twice to put the Whitecaps 4-0 up after 60 minutes, the last 30 minutes saw both teams make several substitutions. It was also in the final half-four that the Whitecaps added a further four goals, with Sandhu claiming two more goals to make it four for the match, while Bains claimed his hat-trick to complete the eight-goal rout. The Whitecaps will now get a well-deserved rest by taking a tourist trip to Amsterdam after watching the Ajax youth team train at De Toekomst (Ajax youth complex) on Tuesday.
