'Caps Residency defeat Gonzaga

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency defeated Gonzaga University Bulldogs 5-1 in a friendly at Trinity Western University on Sunday afternoon.

Thomas Niendorf's side, who are preparing for the INSEL-CUP tournament in Germany early next month, proved too much to handle for their Washington State opponents at the Spartans Sports Complex over the weekend.

Randy Edwini-Bonsu gave Whitecaps Residency the lead on 22 minutes before strike partner Gagandeep Dosanjh doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark.

As one of four substitutes to join the action after halftime, Jamaican youngster Dever Orgill made it 3-0 on 58 minutes before Drew Russell struck the first of his two goals with seven minutes remaining.

On 85 minutes, Gonzaga earned a consolation reply, as they found a way past substitute goalkeeper Karm Shergill. In injury time, Russell converted his second goal to complete the 5-1 scoreline.

Whitecaps Residency will continue to prepare for the INSEL-CUP on the Lower Mainland before leaving for Germany on April 28. The INSEL-CUP tournament will begin Friday, May 9, and conclude on Sunday, May 11.
