Whitecaps sign Justin Moose

Vancouver Whitecaps FC have signed midfielder Justin Moose. Moose, who has spent the last two years with D.C. United of Major League Soccer (MLS), has agreed to a one-year contract - plus an option. Moose joins goalkeeper Jay Nolly and forward Nick Addlery as former D.C. United players who have signed for the Whitecaps this season.

Moose, a 24-year-old native of Statesville, North Carolina, was D.C. United’s first round draft pick (7th overall) in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. In his rookie season, Moose made one appearance as a late substitute against Kansas City on June 24. He spent most of his first year playing for D.C. United’s reserve team, notching one goal and one assist in 10 starts. In 2007, the five-foot-seven, 150-pound midfielder played in seven games, including four starts, for 319 minutes. Moose also saw time on the reserve team, scoring two goals and adding one assist in 12 matches.

Prior to joining D.C. United, Moose enjoyed a successful four-year career at Wake Forest University. In his senior season, Moose tallied seven goals and nine assists, while earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team and National Soccer Coaches Association of America First Team honours. He was also a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, which is given annually to the top NCAA soccer player. Moose is Wake Forest’s all-time leader in assists with 29, seventh in points with 65, and tied for tenth in goals with 18.

During his final two years at Wake Forest, Moose played in the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (PDL) for the Carolina Dynamos. He was twice named to the PDL All-Eastern Conference Team and in 2004, he was named PDL Rookie of the Year.
