'Caps Residency back in Germany

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency are in Germany to participate in next month's INSEL-CUP international youth tournament.

Thomas Niendorf's side make their first trip back to Germany since last October's successful tour of games and training in the European nation. The second German trip also follows Whitecaps Residency's participation in Dallas Cup XXIX this past March and the team's success in the recent Keg Spring Cup tournament at the University of Victoria.

After a recent spell of training and friendly games, which included a 5-1 win over Gonzaga University Bulldogs from Washington State earlier this month, the team will hope to make the most of their time in Germany before embarking on their inaugural campaign in the USL Premier Development League this summer.

Whitecaps Residency will play friendlies against the U-19 Junior Bundesliga sides from SV Stuttgarter Kickers (April 30) and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (May 6), as well as the Zambian U-20 national team (May 8).

Their first game in Group One of the U-19 INSEL-CUP is on Friday, May 9, when the Whitecaps play tournament hosts SpVgg 03 Ilvesheim. On Saturday, May 10, the Residency team play Greek club Skoda Xanthi and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim before completing the tournament with two more games on Sunday, May 11. Niendorf's side will then return home to Vancouver on Monday, May 12.
