Residency edge Stuttgarter Kickers

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency started their latest trip to Germany with a 2-1 victory over the U-19 Junior Bundesliga side from SV Stuttgarter Kickers.

After arriving in Europe on Monday, Thomas Niendorf's side got off to a fast start against their German hosts, with the Wednesday evening friendly proving to be an open contest.

It took Whitecaps Residency just four minutes to take the lead, as Jamaican youngster Dever Orgill struck for the Canadian visitors. Abbotsford, BC, native Gagandeep Dosanjh then fired home the game-winner seven minutes later, as Vancouver took a two-goal lead into the halftime break at Stuttgarter Kickers' training ground.

The home side responded with a consolation goal on the hour mark to deny Residency goalkeeper Simon Thomas a clean sheet. Although there were plenty of opportunities at both ends, the Whitecaps held on for the win and a positive start to their two-week German spell.

The Residency team will now spend the weekend training before meeting the U-19 Junior Bundesliga side from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in a friendly next Tuesday. The following Thursday, Niendorf's squad will face the Zambian U-20 national team in another friendly before taking part in the INSEL-CUP tournament on Friday, May 9.
