Surrey WFC wins Super Y opener

Vancouver Whitecaps FC and BCSA affiliate Surrey WFC opened their inaugural United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League season, winning three of a four-game weekend series in Washington State against the Spokane Spiders.

Despite opening with a 3-0 loss to the Spokane U-13 Boys, Surrey WFC regrouped and swept the next three games over the Spiders. The Surrey WFC U-14 Girls won 3-0, followed by a convincing 4-0 result by the U-14 Boys, and a 2-1 win by the U-13 Girls.

It was a tough opening draw for Surrey WFC, kicking off with their longest road trip of the season to face the relatively unknown first-year Spokane Spiders. Surrey WFC will now prepare for their home opener when they face another first-year Pacific Northwest club, Evergreen Soccer Club, at Newton Athletic Park on Sunday, May 11.

The Whitecaps other Super Y affiliates Coastal WFC kick off on Wednesday, May 21, when they host Surrey WFC in their home opener at Mackie Park. Mountain WFC open their season on the road by traveling to Coastal WFC on Sunday, May 25.
