Toronto FC of Major League Soccer beat Montreal Impact of the United Soccer Leagues 1-0 Tuesday in the first of a series of CONCACAF Champions League qualifiers that includes the USL's Vancouver Whitecaps. A goal in the 72nd minute from Puerto Rico defender Marco Velez proved to be the difference in a game played at Montreal's Stade Saputo. The winner of a round robin between Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver will represent Canada in the 24-team league featuring the best North American teams.
