Jordan and Nolly earn weekly accolade

Vancouver Whitecaps striker Jason Jordan and goalkeeper Jay Nolly have been named in the latest USL First Division Team of the Week.

The pair made the Week Seven squad after fine performances in away wins over Charleston Battery last Wednesday and Minnesota Thunder over the weekend, as Teitur Thordarson's side moved to the top of the USL-1 standings following a successful three-game road trip.

Nolly was picked as this week's top keeper after making eight saves in recording two of three clean sheets during Vancouver's road trip. Jordan, meanwhile, was one of three strikers to be chosen after claiming both game-winning goals in the wins at Charleston and Minnesota.

Joining Jordan in attack was Player of the Week Matthew Delicate. The Rochester Rhinos forward was influential in helping the Upstate New York club record its first win of the season on Sunday, as he scored and set up Johnny Menyongar's winner in a 2-1 win over Portland Timbers. Puerto Rico Islanders striker Taiwo Atieno was also selected in the weekly all-star XI.

Seattle Sounders centre back Taylor Graham, Montreal Impact defender Simon Gatti, and Puerto Rico's Cristian Arrieta made up a three-man backline, while Martin Nunez from Carolina RailHawks was joined in midfield by Menyongar from Rochester, Atlanta Silverbacks man Macoumba Kandji, and Portland Timbers' Miguel Guante.

Another Whitecaps player to win a weekly accolade is women's team midfielder Jonelle Filigno. The Canadian international made the W-League Team of the Week for Week Seven after striking Vancouver's game winner over Fort Collins Force in Colorado last Friday.
