The Impact de Montreal defeated the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps FC by a score of 2:0 at the Nutrilite Canadian Championship, Canada’s qualifier to the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League™, at the Stade Saputo in Montréal, Quebec on Tuesday.
Severino Jefferson (25th) and Joey Gjersten (35th) scored in a ten minute-span in the first half for the Impact de Montreal as they earned their first victory at the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. The Impact de Montreal opened the three-team tournament on 27 May with a 1:0 loss to Toronto FC.
The Nutrilite Canadian Championship continues this month with the Impact traveling to Vancouver, British Columbia to face the Whitecaps on 25 June.
The Canadian qualifier concludes in July with Toronto hosting the Whitecaps on 1 July, then visiting them eight days later, before greeting the Impact on 22 July.
The winner of the round-robin tournament will be the Canadian representative (CAN1) at the CONCACAF Champions League™ where they will face the Nicaraguan Champion (NCA1) in a home-and-away Preliminary Round Series on 27 August and 2 September, respectively.
