Whitecaps feel the Impact - Toronto Sun

MONTREAL - Severino Jefferson and Joey Gjertsen scored in the first half and the Montreal Impact went on to a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Nutrilite Canadian Championship match last night at Saputo Stadium.

The Impact, a 1-0 loser at home to Toronto FC on May 27, is 1-1 in this series that serves as qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League competition later this year.

It was the first game in the series for Vancouver, the United Soccer League's leader.

The Impact failed to sell out its new 13,034-seat stadium for the first time in five matches since moving in, but the 10,054 on hand were entertained by a quick-paced game with good scoring chances at both ends.

The Whitecaps had the first chance only seven minutes in, but striker Jason Jordan's shot from the left side went just wide.
