Thunderbirds hold Prospects to draw

Vancouver Whitecaps Prospects Men were held to a late 1-1 draw by Vancouver Thunderbirds on Thursday night.

Scott Barling's strike two minutes into time added on at the end of the second half denied the Prospects their second Pacific Coast Soccer League win of 2008 at Simon Fraser University's Terry Fox Field.

With Hubert Busby jr deputizing for absent head coach Bart Choufour on Thursday, the Whitecaps also made changes to their starting XI by adding five first-team players in Luca Bellisomo, Mason Trafford, Mason Webb, Stefan Leslie, and Admir Salihovic to their line-up.

The quintet's experience helped stabilize the home side, as the Whitecaps put in a solid first-half performance, despite both clubs going to the halftime break at 0-0.

The Prospects took the lead midway through the second half, as Ben Hemphill struck home Kule Kambere's ball into the Thunderbirds' box with a fine first-time finish.

However, with time winding down, the Whitecaps were hit with a late sucker punch, as Barling got on the end of a ball into the Whitecaps box to head home the equalizer just moments from the final whistle after the home side failed to properly clear a Thunderbirds free kick.

The Prospects will have little time to reflect on Thursday's draw, as Busby will take his squad to Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Washington, for their next PCSL Premier Division encounter, as they look to avenge last Sunday's home defeat to PSSA Rapids on Saturday night.
