The Sport Market on TEAM 1040

The business of soccer worldwide and in Canada is the subject of a special report on this week's edition of The Sport Market on TEAM 1040, Saturday, July 5th, from 8:00 to 10:00 am PT.

The show comes on the heels of the recently-completed Euro 2008, the current FIFA 2010 World Cup qualifying rounds (for Canada and other countries) and the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympics, along with new Canadian Soccer Association properties such as the Nutrilite Canadian Club Championships featuring Toronto FC of Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Montreal Impact of the United Soccer Leagues (USL).

The special report on "The Soccer Market" will be hosted by Tom Mayenknecht and feature in-studio co-hosts and special guests Bob Lenarduzzi, President of the Whitecaps FC, and Bjorn Osieck, the chief executive of the British Columbia Soccer Association.

Telephone guests will include soccer commentator and host Gerry Dobson of Rogers Sportsnet and Geoff Arnoldi of Arnoldi-Watters, a sport marketing company based in Toronto.

The special report will examine all elements of the business of soccer, from broadcast and marketing to venues and finance. In particular, Lenarduzzi and Osieck will be asked about the prospects for soccer in Canada and the business challenges and opportunities facing the global game in this country.

The Sport Market on TEAM 1040, which features the Bulls & Bears of the sport industry, will also look at the major sport business stories of the week -- including NHL free agency, the relocation of Seattle's NBA franchise to Oklahoma City and the media boycott at Bayern Munich -- on The Sport Market Podium at 8:05 am PT and in The Closing Bell at 9:50 am PT.

Veteran sports columnist Iain MacIntyre of The Vancouver Sun will join The Sport Market on TEAM 1040 for Weekend Extra with Sun Sports. MacIntyre will discuss his take on the first week of free agency in the NHL, particularly as it impacts the Vancouver Canucks.

On tap at 9:30 am PT will be Business Aces presented by Everyday Champions. Hosted by Tennis BC CEO Ryan Clark, the segment will profile Grant Connell of Sotheby's International Realty.

The Giving & Winning Sport Philanthropy Report presented by The Stadnyk Foundation is scheduled for 9:45 am PT. This week's segment recognizes Canucks' defenceman Willie Mitchell for his role as the face behind the recent West Coast Fishing Club's 3rd annual Fishing for Kids Fundraiser Tournament which raised $507,000 for BC Children's Hospital.

Also featured will be The Look of Sport presented by Emblematica, the Hot Ticket Tally, The Ratings Report and The Stadium Top-40.

Hosted by Mayenknecht of Emblematica Brand Builders, the Sport Market on TEAM 1040 is also heard live on team1040.ca and available in podcast highlight packages.
