Major League Soccer, here we come?

The Vancouver Whitecaps are expected to confirm their bid to join North American soccer's first division at a news conference this morning in the Pan Pacific Hotel.

MLS commissioner Don Garber said Thursday in Toronto that Vancouver is among eight markets being considered for one of two franchises to be awarded by 2011. Montreal, Ottawa, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Portland, Ore., St. Louis and New York are also candidates.

Victoria's two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash, whose brother Martin is a 'Caps' midfielder, is teaming up with media-shy team owner Greg Kerfoot in the bid. Click here to find out more!

Vancouver Canucks and General Motors Place owner Francesco Aquilini has also expressed interest to MLS, according to 24 hours sources.

The Whitecaps are negotiating to move into B.C. Place Stadium in 2011. President Bob Lenarduzzi told 24 hours earlier this week that the club has not given up on its proposed Whitecaps Waterfront Stadium.
