Jarun makes USL-1 Team of the Week

Vancouver Whitecaps centre back Omar Jarun has been named to the latest USL First Division Team of the Week.

The Palestinian international earned the Week 16 honour after a goal and an assist in last Friday's 3-2 victory at Carolina RailHawks. The defender's efforts were his first-ever goal and assist for Vancouver since joining the Whitecaps from hometown club Atlanta Silverbacks in the off-season.

Jarun was one of three defenders to be chosen for the weekly honour, with Charleston Battery's Nelson Akwari and Cristian Arrieta from Puerto Rico Islanders also being recognized by the USL.

Four midfielders were also chosen, with Josh Gardner from Seattle Sounders and Andrew Gregor from Rochester Rhinos joining Puerto Rico's Jonny Steele and Charleston's Osvaldo Alonso as this week's selections. Alonso made the squad after his two-goal performance against the Whitecaps on Sunday.

Two Atlanta players in Macoumba Kandji and Jerson Monteiro were selected among the forwards, with Kandji taking Player of the Week honours for Week 16. On-loan Portland Timbers striker Bryan Jordan was the third attacker to be selected after his performance in last Saturday's 2-2 draw at Minnesota Thunder.

Seattle goalkeeper Chris Eylander was also selected after making seven saves in Friday's 2-1 win in Puerto Rico.
