Jarun in Team of the Week again

Vancouver Whitecaps centre back Omar Jarun has been named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for the second time this season.

The Palestinian international defender earned the honour for Week 18 after a solid performance in Sunday's goalless draw with league leaders Puerto Rico Islanders. Jarun adds this week's accolade to the Week 16 honour he received from the United Soccer Leagues when he claimed his first points as a Whitecaps player in a 3-2 victory at Carolina RailHawks on August 1.

Jarun was one of three defenders to be named, with Portland Timbers' man Scot Thompson and Charleston Battery's Mike Richardson also making the weekly all-star XI. Puerto Rico's Bill Gaudette was chosen as the team's goalkeeper after making five saves in Sunday's 0-0 draw in Vancouver.

Former Whitecaps players Jason McLaughlin of Atlanta Silverbacks and Tony Donatelli of Montreal Impact were chosen in the team's midfield this week. They were joined by the Impact's Patrick Leduc and Luke Kreamalmeyer from Rochester Rhinos.

Three forwards were picked in the Week 18 squad, with Islanders striker Edson Elcock joining on-loan Portland hit-man Bryan Jordan and recent Carolina acquisition Ronald Cerritos in the attacking positions. Elcock was also named Player of the Week after his two-goal performance in Puerto Rico's 3-0 win over Seattle Sounders on Friday.
