Hirano and Sebrango earn USL-1 nods

Vancouver Whitecaps striker Eduardo Sebrango and defender Takashi Hirano have both been named in the latest USL First Division Team of the Week.

Both players earned spots in the Week 20 team after finding the scoresheet in Vancouver's last two matches against Atlanta Silverbacks and Puerto Rico Islanders. The accolade is the second for Hirano this season, with the Japanese fullback earning his first honour back in Week Four. Sebrango, meanwhile, made the weekly all-star XI for a sixth time. He adds the latest honour to those earned in Weeks One, Four, Eight, 13, and 17 of the 2008 campaign.

Hirano made the side after his superb free-kick equalizer that came late on in Sunday's 1-1 draw versus the Islanders in Puerto Rico. Sebrango made the team after his goal and assist in last Wednesday's 2-0 home win over Atlanta.

Another forward in recent Montreal Impact acquisition Peter Byers was named Player of the Week after his two-goal performance in their away win at struggling Carolina RailHawks on Saturday. Minnesota Thunder striker Nathan Knox was also named in the weekly squad.

Three midfielders were chosen this week. Charleston Battery's Osvaldo Alonso, Rochester Rhinos' Tiger Fitzpatrick, and Montreal's Pato Aguilera were all selected, while Minnesota's Jonathan Greenfield, Puerto Rico's Nigel Henry, and Miami's Bruno Menezes joined Hirano as the four defenders to be chosen.

Montreal's Andrew Weber was the goalkeeper to be selected after earning a clean sheet in Carolina.
