Whitecaps keeper Jay Nolly warms up during practice at Simon Fraser University yesterday.

Finishing a single point out of first place, the Vancouver Whitecaps head into tomorrow’s first-round playoff match against the Minnesota Thunder confident that they’ve saved their best for last.

“I think everybody still feels like we haven’t played our best yet,” said keeper Jay Nolly, 26, entering his first playoff series with the Whitecaps.

“We had a great season, but we can play better as a team and that’s something you want to do heading into the playoffs.”

The Whitecaps, who finished with a record of 15-7-8, have lost only one game in their last 10. They split their season series with the seventh-place Thunder.

Each team won once and they tied their final meeting on Sept. 7.

Only two goals were scored in the three games.

“The team is improving all the time,” said coach Teitur Thordarson. “In the last games we really showed some good stuff, playing well and showing that we are a very good team.”
