Caps re-sign a pair of defenders - The Province

The Whitecaps are hoping for an encore performance of the B-Town Shake. Vancouver's USL club picked up the contract options of D/M Lyle Martin and D Wesley Charles on Thursday. Martin, the 23-year-old from Bakersfield, Calif., thrilled the Swangard Stadium crowd in late August with a dance routine -- dubbed the B-Town Shake -- after scoring his first career goal for the Caps.

The speedy, powerfully built outside right player notched five assists in the regular season and showed plenty of promise that he could be a dominant player at this level.

Charles, a St. Vincent and the Grenadines international who came to Vancouver from Ireland in July, was also a crucial piece in the championship side. An intimidating centre back, the 33-year-old was named to the USL all-league second team in his debut season. On Tuesday, the Caps announced that G Jay Nolly, M Justin Moose and M Vicente Arze would all be back.
