Stars, Whitecaps to play next week - IPP Media

By Malyo Njedengwa Taifa Stars are expected to play an international friendly against visiting Vancouver Whitecaps FC on March 14 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The visitors' technical director, Greg Anderson, said a contingent of 30 people is expected to arrive this morning at the Julius Nyerere International Airport onboard British Airways flight Iceland coach Teitur Thordarson is in charge of the team that boasts a blend of African, North America, Caribbean, Japan, Canada and USA players. "We have a team of players with Liberian, Brazilian, ten Canadians, four Caribbean, and one Japanese," said Anderson. Tanzania Football Federation's secretary general Fredrick Mwakalebela said the visitors are also lined up to play two other friendlies against Young Africans on March 9th before taking on Simba three days later. Besides the friendlies, the visitors would also conduct soccer clinics with the under-20 teams, Azam .C, Villa Squad and Tanzania Soccer Academy (TSA). "We hope the sporting entourage will be useful to the country as well as boosting sports tourism revenue," said Mwakalebela. The newly launched National Stadium will also be on the spotlight with possible exposure to lure 2010 World Cup bound teams to make stopover.
