Trafford's in Tanzania #4 - Hot, Hot Heat

Trafford's Tanzania Diary #4 - The Province
BACK OF THE NET
Today's training session was at 10 a.m. in what I can only describe as the most intense heat I have ever experienced. We were training on field turf (exactly like what we have in Vancouver) and the plan was to have an intense session before our game on Monday.

However, two minutes into the warm-up it was clear that what would normally have been a typical practice was going to be a serious physical and mental grind. The temperature on the turf was 52 degrees Celsius; four feet above the pitch it was 42 degrees Celsius.

Despite having to take many water breaks (both to drink and to water down burning feet), we made it through training without major incident. During training, hundreds of Tanzanian kids and other football fans stood around watching, curious to both witness our different training habits and also to catch a glimpse of the competition that will be playing Yanga FC on Monday (the country’s most popular team).
